Haryana Board Unveils Forward-Looking Syllabi Amidst Latest Exam Performance Data

The Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) has issued new syllabi for Class 12 Business Studies and Chemistry for the 2025-2026 academic session, simultaneously releasing the results of its recent Senior Secondary (Academic) compartment examinations for 16,300 students.

The updated academic frameworks underscore the HBSE's commitment to curriculum modernization. For Business Studies, the revised syllabus encompasses 11 units, structured across 'Principles and Functions of Management' and 'Business Finance and Marketing'. With a total of 100 marks, comprising 80 for theory and 20 for internal assessment, the curriculum mandates project work on vital topics such as Consumer Protection or Financial Management, aligning with real-world business acumen. This holistic approach, incorporating prescribed NCERT texts and the Consumer Protection Act of 1986, aims to equip students with foundational knowledge for careers in commerce, entrepreneurship, and financial services.

Similarly, the Class 12 Chemistry syllabus introduces 10 units, from 'Solutions' to 'Biomolecules', reflecting a comprehensive exploration of key chemical principles. Its examination structure is notable, featuring an external and internal practical assessment of 30 marks each, alongside a 70-mark annual theory exam. The question paper design integrates a variety of formats, including objective, very short answer, short answer, case study, and long answer questions, encouraging a deep, analytical understanding of the subject matter. Prescribed materials include BSEH Publications' "Chemistry Part-I and Part-II" and NCERT's "Laboratory Manual," fostering both theoretical mastery and practical scientific inquiry essential for STEM pathways.

In parallel with these curricular advancements, the HBSE announced the outcomes of its Senior Secondary (Academic) compartment one-day examination, revealing an overall pass percentage of 71.90%. Out of 16,300 candidates, 11,719 successfully cleared the examination, while 4,422 students were compartmentalized. A nuanced analysis of the results shows a slight edge for female students, with 72.46% passing compared to 71.54% of male students. Regional disparities were also evident; Palwal district recorded an impressive 80.95% pass rate, whereas Yamunanagar registered the lowest at 56.13%. This data provides valuable insights into student performance dynamics across the state's educational landscape.
